Vodafone’s risk-free journey to a ‘consumable’ multicloud environment
The necessary renewal of existing legacy databases and systems, combined with far-reaching cloud ambitions, presented Vodafone with a challenge: how can we achieve this as quickly, effectively, and risk-free as possible? According to Arman Ashouriha, Vodafone’s Head of Cloud Infrastructure Modernization, the answer to these questions is not just about applying the best possible technology. “We could not make this journey alone and were looking for a partner that understood our business needs and had an eye for the human aspects.”
Thanks to an intensified partnership with Oracle, Vodafone can now take two fundamental steps: cleaning up legacy systems and preparing for future migration to the public cloud. Arman Ashouriha: “I think many companies face similar challenges and are looking for a smooth transition from legacy to a distributed, business-oriented multicloud — preferably offered in a ‘consumable’ way that encourages people across the organization to make optimal use of it.”
Public cloud-like environment
Vodafone’s Multi Cloud strategy has been enhanced by Oracle OCI Dedicated Region. This public cloud-like environment deployed on premise will host the company’s thousands of Oracle databases, as well as support and scale Vodafone’s mission-critical operations support system and business support system (OSS/BSS), including CRM and order management. The Dedicated Region essentially provides Vodafone with many of the capabilities it would benefit from in the public cloud, whilst giving it time to upgrade its applications to public cloud native over the next years.
